Remember a few years back it was rumored that new cat cafe would be opening in the city with the potential owner eyeing Southie for its location?  Well, it looks like Southie will not have a cat cafe…yet….The cat cafe will be opening in Brighton.

According to Universal Hub, a new cat cafe will open on Chestnut Hill Ave. in Brighton.  The Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved the business to fill a vacant spot.  Diane Kelly is the owner of Purr Cat Cafe and will feature 25 adoptable cats (rescued from a local shelter), coffee and free Wifi.  That’s it.  No food will be prepared or served.   So if sipping on coffee, playing with a kitten and posting photos said kitten on social media sound right up your alley, then Purr Cat Cafe is the place for you!  If you are not a fan of cats, well, maybe skip this spot.

Kelly hopes to open by early 2017.   Purr Cat Cafe will be the first cat cafe in Boston.  There are more than 100 across the country and wildly popular in Japan.  So who knows, we have many a vacant storefront, maybe Southie needs a cat cafe!
