A little birdie told us that an election was held on Tuesday evening to vote on leadership roles.  Well, we are happy to report that David Falvey – Army National Guard –  is the new commander.  Bernie Trager is now senior vice commander.  Colin Smith – currently in the Coast Guard – is the junior vice commander.  Ed Shifflett is now the treasurer.

To refresh your memory, the Allied War Veterans Council are the organizes of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  After many years of controversy and exclusion of OUTVets – the new leadership is a breath of fresh air and will hopefully usher in a new era of equality and inclusion.

Ed Flynn – AWVC member, OEF veteran and candidate for Boston City Council, District 2, nominated Falvey for commander.  “Tonight the Allied War Veterans Council took an historic step forward by unanimously electing enthusiastic new leadership that will reflect the values of South Boston veterans and the community and respect equality for all. This new leadership team, led by newly-elected Commander Dave Falvey, an active member of the United States Army and resident of South Boston, will ensure that the rights of every veteran are respected and I’m proud to have voted to support them as we move forward together.” Flynn also added.  “We are proud of the younger veterans of South Boston – especially the members from the Perkins Post for their strong leadership on this issue.”

Congratulations to all and here’s to keeping the parade where it belongs right here in South Boston. Remember if it wasn’t for the fortification of Dorchester Height we’d all be speaking the queens English.
