Looks like the Andrew Square Auto Glass will be transforming into….wait for it….25 apartments!  Developers Christopher Roche and Thomas Falcucci have filed plans with the Boston Planning and Development Agency.

According to Universal Hub, there will be no parking spots in the building since it’s conveniently located across the street from Andrew Square Station.  Well, that’s gonna go over like a lead ballon – some residents in that neighborhood are already going bananas over lack of parking at it is!  Read this!

Instead of parking, the developers would rather dedicate the space on the ground floor for something like a new restaurant or cafe. (We like that idea!)

All rental units would be one bedroom/one bath.  Four both em would be rented as affordable.  If approved, construction would begin the end of this year.

You can view the application here!

Friday, May 25th is the last day to submit comments in support or opposition to this project.  You can learn more here!

Lovejoy won over the city with the same logic, although that was a few hundred units….this is 25. I would rather a restaurant than some unnecessary parking. Individual car ownership is declining anyways.

All that said, that area of town is still troubled and will continue to be so long as the public housing complex’s exist.

The McCormick redevelopment can’t happen soon enough, and I really hope those people don’t come back.

That’s not a very nice thing to say about the residents of this development. You hope they stay away?
It’s the minority of individuals in Mary Ellen McCormick who are causing problems.
What do you suggest? Relocate the whole place! Get rid of em all!!!!!
To where? Then what? Start on the same residents again to force them somewhere else?
I grew up in those projects. Yes, it’s very different now, I agree, but don’t place the blame for problems in the Andrew Square area solely on the shoulders of BHA residents, many of whom are in good standing and have been living in Southie all their lives.
People in the lower income range need to live somewhere! Also, don’t look down your nose at those less fortunate, as you might find yourself one step from homelessness someday… and you will remember this post.
I was homeless for 5 years and I finally was able to call this development in Dorchester my home. I’ve been here for 10 years. I’m grateful to have a place to lay my head
      Thank you BHA .

My only real concern is getting hit by a stray bullet. Take a moment and look at bpdnews.com and tell me where almost every single instance with a gun is located.

Ill save you the time…..ITS IN THE BHA COMPLEXS 95% of the time.

        • Bazz April 19, 2018 at 11:08 am - Reply

You need to recheck your sources because 95% of shootings most definitely do not take place here. You probably should move regardless cupcake!

          • Not so New to the Hood April 19, 2018 at 12:15 pm

Of the shootings that do happen in South Boston, 95% occur within or within close proximity of the BHA property. Do you prefer that phrasing?

          • Roger Glass April 19, 2018 at 2:31 pm

Joanne and Bazz….I don’t think I have seen a more ignorant pair on this site.

If it is not 95% it is most certainly closer to 100% then. Yes, almost all gun related issues that occur in Southie happen in the housing complex…..cupcake.

some ‘unnecessary parking’ …lol when’s the last time you drove a car or left your house?

  2. Roger Glass April 18, 2018 at 2:51 pm - Reply

You are absolutely right. That argument is so tired. So long as there isn’t a foot of snow on the ground parking is absolutely attainable every single night of the year. It just may not be directly outside your front door. Quit complaining and walk a block or two.

As for the public housing in and around Andrew Square….it is going to be gobbled up like a turkey on Thanksgiving day.

The quality of people that these developments are going to attract will NOT put up with the BS that comes out of the public housing complex.

Be it increased patrols or a relocation all together; it will NOT last. So, be patient. The leeches of Southie are not long for this world.

Individual car ownership is declining…Good one! If this passes and I guarantee it will not in it’s current proposal, at least 90% of the people who move in will be bringing their vehicles. Individual car ownership may be declining in communities like Cambridge but sure is not in Southie!

    • Roger Glass April 18, 2018 at 3:28 pm - Reply

Individual car ownership in Southie IS in fact on the DECLINE. Sorry, pal.

      • Eleanor April 19, 2018 at 8:29 am - Reply

And what are you basing this conclusion on? You desire to make a point with no data to back it up? (that’s what I thought) Sorry Pal, car ownership is alive, well and thriving in Southie. The town has a ‘PARKING CRISIS’ (That’s the cities words)

        • Roger Glass April 19, 2018 at 2:35 pm - Reply

Eleanor….oh boy, are you asking yourself questions AND answering them? Mmmm….not good.

So listen here, sweetheart….car ownership in southie is absolutely alive! You are correct. It is however on the decline.

          Sorry, pal…try again next time.

          • Eleanor April 23, 2018 at 8:24 am

Roger, you ignorant slut. Have a nice day!

      • Bazz April 19, 2018 at 11:12 am - Reply

Where are your facts coming from Roger? Something tells me Roger and NSNTTH must be roommates or the same person.

    • Not so New to the Hood April 18, 2018 at 3:54 pm - Reply

What an absurd claim…. “car ownership may be declining in Cambridge, but not in Southie”….right….because everyone in Cambridge is a bike toting tree hugger and everyone in Southie is pretentious Yuppie.

Oh really..ALL of the shootings in recent weeks have been in either “D” STREET, OLD COLONY or MCCORMACK..these projects are LOADED with UNWED MOTHERS,PHONY S.S.I. DIDABILITY RECEIPENTS, FAKE REFUGEES,and most important, UNREGISTERED squatters who live there but are NOT on the lease..the BY A is a complete failure..And I feel bad for the good, hard working people from SOUTHIE who have to be terrorized by these LOWLIFES!

  7. Michele Fortin April 20, 2018 at 11:23 am - Reply

They are rebuilding them and they are only letting legit and in good standing back there. If you don’t like where u live move. BYE !

They’ll get a slap on the wrist and be back on the street dealing their ‘Wares’ to the rich and poor is Southie.
It’s “Business as Usual” with this inept court system with have. It’s a revolving door of affenders who see little jail time. It should be a Federal offense when guns with defaced serial numbers are involved. I minimum of 5 years without the possibility of parole should automatic for these Low Lifes.

Seriously terrorized have you been to city point lately? No projects but all kinds of bad things happening but keep telling yourself it’s the projects only. Funny how only bad people and things come from the projects open your eyes andrew square is that bad because or the people migrating from mass ave. Not just project people. 9 times outta 10 theyre from up the street not the projects!

I’m a life long South Boston resident and I would welcome any new development to clean up Andrew Square. I know there are other projects getting ready to break ground that will hopefully transform that area. I understand people always want to talk about parking, but creating a safer neighborhood should take precedent… Also I strongly agree that the development of the Old Harbor Projects can’t start soon enough

This has got to be one of the most entertaining threads of all time. Typically if I’m going to insult someone online I make sure I know how to spell the words I’m using, but this all adds to character and all around idiocy of this thread. I LOVE IT

Andrew Square will never cleanup despite these projects. It’s a filthy area with immigrants galore. Just go hang out there on a typical weekday. All of the yahoos who have no jobs or any prospects are out and about, zombifying on the streets. Perhaps if you called this “Walking Dead Square” and brought a movie production crew, the city could finally capitalize on the crappy area.
