Everyone wants to live in Southie!  Even wildlife.  We’ve got coyotes, deer, skunks, mola mola sunfish, whalesbald eagles, turkeys bunnies, snowy owls and the Southie groundhog!  Yes, groundhog! Groundhog sightings in Southie are becoming more and more frequent.  We spotted one on N Street last summer!

Speaking of groundhogs, Puxatony Phil did NOT see his shadow which means an early spring!  Fingers crossed!

So is it weird to see a groundhog in the city?  A little but it’s to entirely out the question.  The just need a little green space and they can live just fine.

The Scoop on Groundhogs:

Groundhogs are the largest members of the squirrel family.

The most common groundhog is the woodchuck.

Groundhogs are also known as whistle pigs due to the fact when alarmed, they let out a high-pitched whistle.

So have you seen the Southie Groundhog?  Send us your sightings and you pictures! Watch out Puxatony Phil – Southie’s got a groundhog!

Let’s start a similar series on the recurring homeless gentlemen in our neighborhood. You can interview them, get their backstory, and maybe even throw them a little ad revenue. Raise awareness for dudes.
