If you rent in Boston this is not news to you, but Boston is one of the most expensive major cities in the US to rent!  According to the real estate website Zumper,  the median one-bedroom rent in Boston for May is $2,300 a month, and the two-bedroom median is $2,700.  The national median is $1,185 for a one-bedroom and $1,422 for a two-bedroom.  Yikes! 

According to Rentcafe.com average rent (for all rentals) for South Boston is $3455.  For Dorchester it’s $2687. Holy moly!

    The table only tracks “Class A” institutionally owned buildings. $3,200/Mo. for a 1 bed in Southie couldn’t be further from actuality when you factor in privately owned units. It’s closer to $2300/Mo for 1 bedrooms factoring the entire supply. Median for a 3 bed being $6K….cmon, that’s not even in the ball park.

    There’s not a chance in hell the average rent in Southie for a 3 bedroom condo is 6 grand. Maybe in one of the penthouses in the new buildings, but no chance anywhere else.

      This could also be due to the fact that the “Seaport” may be considered part of “Southie” in this table as there is no separate line for the seaport.
