Mayor Walsh’s Civic Academy – an outlet for residents to collaborate with local government – is having its second class – this time with a focus on the environment and energy department in particular the city’s Climate Action Plan. The Climate Action Plan gives tangible steps and a long-term vision for making Boston greener, healthier, and more prosperous. From creating local and clean energy, to preparing for climate disasters like Superstorm Sandy, to making sure our waste gets recycled and reused, the strategies of the Climate Action Plan are the result of over a year of public process and thousands of personal interactions with Bostonians The Civic Academy will take place on Monday November 17th from 6:30-8pm at the New England Aquarium, 1 Central Wharf. Handle Bar Mustache! It’s all about the mustache at the Handle Bar on Wednesday, November 19th with a special ride for Movember. (Okay, let’s get the mustache ride jokes out of the way! ) All proceeds from the classes will be donated to the Movember Foundation, the leading global organization committed to changing the face of men’s health, through challenging men to grow mustaches during November to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer. To fit with the Movember theme, riders will ride along to a soundtrack of top male artists, including pump-up tunes from Justin Timberlake and Jason Derulo mixed by a live in-studio DJ. Better yet, immediately following the 60-minute class, riders can shop the latest designs from the local bow tie company, OoOTie, who will hosting an exclusive pop-up shop at The Handle Bar. Volunteer! Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for what you have and the perfect time to help those who are less fortunate. The long standing South Boston tradition of the Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Monica’s church is being served from 11:30-1:30. If you would like to come for a delicious dinner at St. Monica’s Hall (at the corner of Preble and Old Colony Ave) just bring your appetite.
