It’s the 240th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party! On December 16, 1773, a bunch of colonists who had it up to here with England, dumped some tea into Boston Harbor and started a revolution. This is the perfect time of year to help those less fortunate. Clean out that closet and help those in need. Mass Bay Credit Union (147 West Fourth Street) is hosting its annual Coat and Warm Clothing drive in partnership with Friends of Boston’s Homeless Warm Hands Warm Heart campaign. Kindly donate new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and socks. Donations boxes are located in all of Mass Bay’s branches including the one in South Boston. Donations will be accepted until January 31st. So be kind and help. It’s good for the soul!

The South Boston Neighborhood House in partnership with the South Boston Leadership Initiative will be hosting a series of Teen Trainings on various topics. The series will take place on the third Wednesday of the month. The first training will focus on the topic of using social media wisely led by Brendan Kelly from the BPD – Area c-6.
This training will take place on Wednesday, December 18th from 6PM – 7:30PM @ the Ollie, 136 H Street. All teens are invited to attend!
You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch! The Curley Community Center will host a special interactive reading and live performance of the Christmas classic, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Wednesday, December 18th from 3pm-5pm. This event is perfect children ages 10 and under and is free and open to all families. Space is limited and registration is necessary – contact Barbara Kelly at 617-635-5104.
Eat, drink and be merry. In the spirit of Christmas, City Councilor Bill Linehan invites you to celebrate the holidays on Wednesday, December 18th from 6pm-9pm at Lincoln (425 West Broadway). Mix and mingle with friends and meet some new ones too. There will be live music, food and a cash bar.
Since Christmas is the season for giving, why not give the gift of time and service to your community? In preparation of the Msgr. Thomas J. McDonnell and Frank Kelley Christmas Dinner at St. Monica’s, the search for volunteers to help cook turkeys, make pick ups, deliveries, serve meals, set-up and clean-up is underway. Give Blood. The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive on Friday, December 20th from 10:30am-3:30pm at the South Boston Public Library (646 East Broadway). Appointments can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome!
In the spirit of the season, celebrate Christmas at a spectacular event. A Celtic Christmas Concert in the Chapel features Irish music, songs, poems and stories from the old country. The backdrop is the the historic and beautiful St. Augustine’s Chapel. This event takes place on Saturday, December 21st at 7pm. Highlight of the evening will be Katie McD and the Irish Cross Country Band. Tickets are $20 in advance – limited seating.
