Since signs of construction were never apparent on West Broadway (between C and D Streets), we sort of figured that Foodie’s Urban Market would not be opening this Spring.  But fear not, the local grocery and specialty store (with locations in Duxbury and the South End) will now open its doors in the Fall.

According to Evelyn Friedman, director of the City of Boston’s Redevelopment, who is overseeing the project, says issues with the buildings lease caused the delay and assured South Boston that the project was moving forward.

Phew!

And speaking of grocery stores, we heard that the recently demolished building on East First Street and now vacant section of land will hopefully be the home of a new super market.  The owners are currently shopping around for a super market chain to lease the spot.

Hey, Whole Foods, if you’re reading this, we’d love to have you in Southie!
