The Boston Licensing Board has finally approved plans for Republic – a new restaurant – to open on Dorchester Street.  The owners of the proposed plan agreed to reduce the capacity from 240 seats to 130.  They will also eliminate an outdoor patio  along the street from the original plan and agreed to shut accordion-style windows at 8 p.m. Republic will be on the ground level of a 30-unit residential building and will have a full bar, a seasonal open-air atrium with a bar and fire pits.  

Get it in before it’s gone!  Sam’s at Louis will be closed temporarily beginning August 31st but will reopen as Sam’s in November at Twenty-Two Liberty.  Fear not, Sam’s will still have an amazing view and will continue to serve up some of the best food in town including seafood, small plates, and one of the best burgers around!   They also have a fun cocktail menu too!  The building that once housed Louis and Sam’s at Louis was just a temporary building.  The legendary department store Louis officially closed its door in July.  Stay tuned for an opening date for the new Sam’s.  

Worden Hall located at 22 West Broadway is slated to open on Thursday, August 27th.  Worden Hall is the newest addition to restaurateur Dylan Welsh’s endeavors.  He owns Five Horses in the South End and Davis Square.  To read more about Worden Hall visit: https://caughtinsouthie.com/restaurants-bar/shiny-new-spot

Coppersmith is currently hiring staff.   Interested candidates should email: [email protected] The much anticipated restaurant will feature farm-to-table, an outdoor patio, a rooftop garden, and food trucks. Coppersmith hopes to be open next month.   

6th Gear – the old Wolfie’s/Sauce at the corner of L and East Fourth was rumored to be opening last winter but seems to be at a complete standstill.  The father and daughter owned spot seems to have come to a complete stand still.  6th Gear will feature classic comfort food, a 10 seat bar with a 1am close.  Hopefully it will open soon!

Urban Art Bar/Juice Box has closed its doors on East Broadway.  No word yet what will take over that space.  The Juice Box’s  located at 359 West Broadway is still open.  

A new Italian spot is in the works on West Broadway in the former Dollar City store brought to you by the good people who brought you Lincoln Tavern and Loco.  We can’t wait! 

The legendary baker, Quinzani’s will close it’s doors next week.  Located in the South End on Harrison Ave, Quinzani’s was THE place you’d go if you were entertaining and needed lots of rolls.  Many a Southie communion or anniversary party had Quinzani’s rolls on the buffet.  According to the Boston Globe, Quinzani’s serves over 800 clients – including caterers, delis, restaurants, and food service companies all over Massachusetts.  Lots of Southie sub shops carry Quinzani’s rolls.  The almost 100 year old bakery will converted into condos.  Sign of the times.

Where’s the beef? Apparently down the Southie waterfront.  According to Boston Eater, Ocean Prime is hoping to open this winter at 100 Pier 4.  This high-end national chain will join the likes of Morton’s and Del Frisco’s and will serve steak and seafood in a “supper club” atmosphere.  Steaks start at $40.  Start saving, Southie!

Nothing new to report on the building at L and East Broadway and what will go in the ground floor of this coveted spot – other than the new addition of a fancy light fixture near the front door.  According the building owner, “we are close” to working out a deal with a new tenant.  So fingers crossed.  If we had a nickel for every email or tweet we received about this space, we’d have a lot of nickels!
