It’s no secret that the Seaport is booming. But, if you’ve been waiting for a local smorgasbord filled with food-truck inspired eats, well, that ships a’comin.
The Seaport District’s Innovation & Design Building will be undergoing major upgrades and local food favorites, like Mei Mei and Roxy’s Grilled Cheese, will start serving up specialties in renovated shipping containers this fall. Yes, you heard that right, shipping containers.
The new concept is all part of the ongoing redevelopment plan for the Dry Dock Ave space, which once served as the South Boston Army Base. Currently, the building is home to architect firms, engineers, and other commercial tenants. Redevelopment plans for IDB include over $100 million in upgrades to the City-owned facility. These improvements will involve a 3-year, 1000-window replacement project for the entire building, new and improved lighting, ground floor entrance and main lobby renovations for 21, 23 and 25 Drydock, 300+ indoor bike racks, signage,16 new ground floor showrooms, and centralized heating and cooling systems in 21, 23 and 25 Drydock buildings.
Dumpling masters, Mei Mei, have confirmed on their Facebook page that they’ll offer a “low-prep” menu, such as soups, salads, and other on-the-go delicacies in their repurposed160-square foot space. Along with Roxy’s, they’ve said their kiosks will open just in time for the mini-food hall & all-local market, American Field, on September 12 & 13 hosted at the Building.
Other kiosks are set to open in the future, and the line-up will include Yankee Lobster Co, healthy juice hub Jubali, and (caffeine addicts rejoice), Triangle Coffee, are also said to be joining the promenade.
