Innovation District be damned.  To us, it is and will always be the Southie Waterfront.  So with summer upon us, here is a quick guide of places to eat and drink on South Boston’s waterfront.

Legal Seafood
Established in 1950 by George Markowitz, the Legal Seafood restaurants don’t take their cuisine lightly, especially Legal Harborside, which serves up some of the freshest catches in the Seaport District. Picture this: three floors, three different concepts, and 20,000 square feet. Not too shabby, right?  The first floor consists of casual dining with delectable seafood entrees, an oyster bar and a market where you can purchase your favorite fishes to take home and serve up however you please (takeout is available too!).  The first floor menu even includes an “Ode to Inman Square” section, home of the original Legal Cash Market and Legal Seafoods from 1904 to 1980. The second floor has finer, more expensive cuisine with a creative edge and also offers private dining for celebratory occasions.  Finally, the third floor consists of a rooftop lounge with cocktails and nibbling treats to munch on while you enjoy the ocean view.

Temazcal Tequila Cantina
Temazcal Tequila Cantina spices up South Boston’s Seaport District with dishes like lobster, rock shrimp and ahi tuna ceviche and succulent prime beef sirloin with Oaxaca cheese.  The avant-garde of Mexican cuisine doesn’t stop there.  Temazcal also has over 300 varieties of tequila for those of you who like to celebrate Cinco de Mayo 364 times a year.  Take advantage of its spacious ocean-view bar.  They also offer validated parking for each patron who uses VPNE parking, located at the front entrance of the restaurants.

Jerry Remy’s Sport’s Bar
Maybe it’s the 30 artisan micro-brewed beers, the casual atmosphere, or the enthusiastic Boston sports fans that have made Jerry Remy’s popularity explode in the Seaport District.  Jerry Remy’s has gotten so crowded over the weeks that potential patrons have waited up to two hours to grab a seat at the 50-foot bar.  Let’s not forget the infamous Monster Wall, made of 32 46-inch plasma screen TVs with state-of-the art surround sound.  This mega sports bar serves up delicious contemporary American cuisine, including loaded nachos, sweet vidalia onion rings, red chile mango steak salad, and their signature Rem Dawg.  With the summer heating up, customers can enjoy the outdoor patio, which seats up to 140 people, and take in the Boston Harbor view.

Del Frisco’s
Del Frisco’s is one of the fine dining experiences on the Southie waterfront area.   This top notch steak house has a gorgeous and spacious patio to enjoy a pre-meal cocktail…or two. Del Frisco has impressive circular bar and bartenders that mix up some unique concoctions along with classic martinis.  Del Frisco’s will be serving lunch beginning in June.  Perfect spot for special occassions and private dining rooms are available.

LTK
LTK is the edgier little sister to Legal Seafoods.  Serving up less traditional seafood dishes like, the menu is fusion filled but will not disappoint – the legendary Legal Chowder is still on the menu.  Sit patio-side and enjoy the fresh salt air! LTK boasts the area’s longest hours of operation – as late as 2 AM ! The state-of-the-art Legal Test Kitchen is a true showcase for the global evolution of dining trends, offering innovative technology matched to multi-cultural cuisine.

Tamo Bar at the Seaport Hotel
Tamo has a zen-like vibe and the perfect spot to unwind after a busy work day!  Stop by the newly expanded terrace for a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail and people watch.  Complete with an new outdoor bar and flatscreen television, Tamo is a refreshing alternative to a sports bar to watch a game.  On Sundays, Tamo hosts Sunday Jazz Brunch on the Terrace!   Brunch is available from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and reservations are not necessary. Every Tuesday, enjoy live jazz music by the  Lance Houston and his talented jazz quartet.

Empire
This Asian-inspired restaurant and lounge is over 14,000 square feet and could easily pass as an Epcot Center stop.  Empire is divided into nine different rooms with details like plush fabric, gilded accents, rich woods, and gorgeous colors.  The menu featured such classic asian delights as rangoons, spring rolls, pot stickers and pad thai.  Give one of their Crouching Tiger or Hidden Dragon, fruity concoctions of rum or vodka that serves four.

A lot of you kids are very attractive, good in school like to  go out and have a good time and enjoy life. But why is it that you see in ads about kids going out drinking and taking drugs. Girls, don’t go out drinking because, the guys that you are with only want to get you drunk and then, have a good with you. And maybe even get you hooked on drugs I grew up in Southie, went to Southie High, went off to college and did well.  With out driking or drugs. My brother got hooked on booze and drugs, fell asleep in his car, with a smoke in his hand and burned to death. Kids, go to school, study hard and become the best in your fields, and keep away from the booze & drugs.  I have a niece from Fall River that just  graduated from Brown University and is now working in Boston and is earning almost 1/4 a million a year. You can do it too. Please try.
