Heather Foley

Heather Foley is a delight. She is sweet, beautiful, kind, and funny.  By instinct, you want to hate her out of envy for her good looks and amazing wardrobe but five minutes in her company and you want to be her best friend.  We thought we’d give you a glimpse into the psyche of one of Caught in Southie’s most popular bloggers. What better way to kick off 2012, with a lesson from Heather to always see the humor in everyday life.

Through her written stream of consciousness, we laugh out loud at her sometimes self-deprecating thoughts and identify with her observations with subjects ranging from vampires to exposed testicles, to mob molls on the lamb, with her hometown of Southie as the backdrop.   She is an inspiration in the sense that sometimes we take life a little too serious, and maybe we need to see  what’s funny and delightful about every day situations.  If you can’t find the humorous side of the huge line at the post office on East Third Street, take a deep breath and think to yourself, “what would Heather say?”   Most likely a smile will spread across your face.

What do you love about living in South Boston?
I love the mix of people.  I love that I can go to Local 149 for dinner and see everyone from girls I went to high school with to my nana’s friends.

Typical Friday night?
I can usually be found at one of 3 places: on my couch, at the BAC, or the L St. Tavern, I would be very easy to stalk.  Hint, hint –  if anyone is thinking about stalking me.

Big night on the town, where do you like to go?  
Let me think way back to the last time I went anywhere ‘special’………I love Del Frisco’s but I’m pretty happy going anywhere I can get a big fat steak.  I LOVE RED MEAT.

Favorite cocktail of choice?
I will only drink red wine at home because purple teeth is a real hard look to pull of.  My usual drink is a Magners, but I’m also a big fan of Hendricks and Bombay Saphire gin or St. Germain.

When you get a manicure which color do you gravitate towards or do you switch it up?  
Always color.  No offense to anyone who has one but I absolutely hate French manicures.  I go bright in the spring/summer, dark in the fall/winter.

Style icons?
Maureen Dahill (obviously), Olivia Palmero, Jenna Lyons, Taylor Tomasi Hill, and though she’s not necessarily my style icon, I have rationalized wearing a few different things by saying ‘Beyonce wore it.’

Name three things people would be surprised to learn about you: 

1. I wanted to be Mary Richards from the Mary Tyler Moore Show when I was little. I had a gold H on my bedroom wall just like hers, I loved her apartment, and I still love her and Rhoda’s clothes.  Not Cinderella, not Snow White, not Sleeping Beauty (not that Sleeping Beauty didn’t have a sweet gig), Mary Richards.  I think I still kind of want to be her.
2. I have a scar on my ankle that looks like a burn from a motorcycle.  I often let people think it is to give me a little street cred but its really because I dropped a boiling pot of pasta on myself.
3. I am slightly delusional.  I honestly think I am going to be amazing at everything I try and when I’m not I’m legitimately surprised.  I have no idea why I think way because to be honest I’ve never been particularly good at anything.  I’m also honestly surprised when I buy a lottery ticket and don’t win.

Have you always wanted to write?

Not really.  I’ve always liked attention (shocking) and making people laugh, and apparently I can do that writing.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I wanted to be Mary Richards, but my backup careers were Barbie fashion designer and naming nail polish colors.

New Year’s resolutions?
I don’t really make concrete resolutions, instead my resolution is to try more new things and then be surprised when I stink at them.
