Remember a few years back when Michael C. Doherty – a 16 year veteran of the Boston Police Department, was arrested and charged after he allegedly beat an Uber driver and then drove off in his car? Doherty, who was off duty at the time of the incident, also allegedly shouted racial epithets at the driver who is Hispanic and a man who stopped to help who is black.

On Monday, a Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted Doherty of two counts of assault and battery and assault and battery for purposes of intimidation. Jurors acquitted Doherty of violating the civil rights of a second man who tried to help in the conflict on the victim’s behalf.
