Yikes!  On Wednesday morning BPD made an onsite arrest of a 17 year-old male from Somerville that was packing heat in the area of Old Harbor and Dorchester streets.  This was the third arrest of a juvenile carrying a gun in less than 24 hours in Boston.

One less gun in the community – thanks BPD!

From BPD News:
On Wednesday May 17 at approximately 9:40am, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest as part of an ongoing investigation in the area of Dorchester Avenue and Old Harbor Street in South Boston.  The officers were aware that the target of their investigation, a 17-year-old male from Somerville, was in possession of a firearm.

The officers located the suspect and conducted a pat frisk which led to the recovery of a loaded .40 caliber Taurus PT 100AF handgun from inside the suspect’s pants at which time he was placed in custody without incident.   This was the third juvenile arrested by Boston Police on firearm related charges in less than 24 hours.  The suspect will appear in South Boston Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit:  Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

“This is third juvenile arrested in less than 24 hours for carrying a loaded firearm and that troubles me” said Commissioner Evans.  “I commend my officers for their continued efforts as they work to keep our city safe but this just shows what we’re up against.  We all need to do more to keep guns out of the hands of children.”

Yes it may be one less gun, but that doesn’t solve the problem of criminals roaming our streets. It wasn’t a gun that killed Amy Lord or the two doctors. South Boston isn’t the community it once once when everyone watched out for each other. People should just be a lot more aware of their surroundings now days.
