Out with the old….

This past fall, the Allied War Veterans Council ushered in a new era of leadership.  Southie resident and Army National Guard member – Dave Falvey became the new commander of the AWVC and worked tirelessly to improve transparency and transform an image of an anti-LGBTQ parade into one that is inclusive.  (Remember back in 2017, when the AWVC reinstated the ban on allowing gay veterans to March?)

In an effort to put the the past behind them, the AWVC extended an invitation to OUTVETS to march in the 2018 parade in hopes to resolve the decades-old battle with gay organizations. An invitation, that OUTVETS graciously accepted. Other than the shortened parade route, thanks to Mother Nature, the parade was a big success without controversy……or so we thought.

It was announced on Wednesday that Tim Duross – the parade organizer since 2015 (and a parade volunteer for over 20 years) and the Allied War Veterans Council have officially parted ways. We wonder if had anything to do with allowing Shiva for Senate to march in the 2018 parade with a questionable sign? The candidate who is running against Elizabeth Warren for US Senate displayed an sign with a photo of Elizabeth Warren in full Native American Headdress and the hashtag #FakeIndian.  Hmmmm……

#FakeIndian is an insult to my entire tribe. As chief spokesperson I can say that, while she may be CALLED Pocohontas, she is, in fact, not one of us. WE’RE THE FUKAWI! A proud, but small people from a land of very tall grass.

Maybe we just end or replace the parade? It’s such a burden on the neighborhood. What about a cultural festival or something that’s a little more concise & controlled?

Good idea. Instead of a parade they could have a mile and half line of Port’o Potties :-)
