Looks the City of Boston has decided to shortened the parade route thanks to the 14 inches of snow that fell on Tuesday.  This is the not the first time that we’ve had a shortened parade route.  Last year it was shortened and also back in 2015 aka snowmageddon.  The parade will go one straight shoot from West Broadway (beginning at Broadway Station) to East Broadway (ending at Farragut Road).

The South Boston Allied War Veterans Council have released a statement regarding Mayor Walsh’s decision to shorten the parade.  Needless to say, they are less than pleased with the route.  Read below!

Let’s hope this discourages the many drunken fools from invading the neighborhood and causing havoc. I hope the BPD strictly enforces the no public DRINKING rule.this is suppose to be a joyful event. however in recent years it has turned SOUTHIE into drunken cesspool. Sorry to say.

It is what it is. Parade or not, it’s St. Patrick’s Day in South Boston. What do you expect?

What do I expect? I expect these out of town suburban idiots to act like they were in their parents neighborhood. I’m sure if my 26yr old invaded their parents hood and acted like a bunch of drunken savages their parents would be outraged and would be demanding the local police take action..somehow it appears on st Patrick’s day it’s a given that anything goes and that’s the way it is.WRONG ATTITUDE!

I think that’s where you’ve lost touch with reality. These aren’t their parents’ neighborhoods. These are transients who have moved to Southie to be close to their peers & city center, where they likely work, and want to live an urban lifestyle. This is THEIR neighborhood as much as it is yours.

You may still be in denial, but this community is no longer the family oriented, Irish predominant Southie. The average age is probably around 30 and a tiny fraction of the communities parents actually lived in Southie. People move here in the early and mid 20’s, meet their partner, have a kid or two, and then move to the burbs when they hit the public school age.

That is why many schools have been consolidated in this neighborhood. The kids simply don’t exist. Thank BPS and the wonderful state and city gov. who’s efforts have been futile in improving those schools.

Not so New; your a complete fool..the population of south boston is about 34,000. On st Patrick’s day it swells to close to ONE MILLION! So your premise that everyone here on st Patrick’s day lives here is as stupid as you are..so you want the readers to believe the population is southie is ONE MILLION!.

    • Not so New to the Hood March 16, 2018 at 9:44 am - Reply

A million people is a far, far stretch. MAYBE 500,000 and that’s on a warm, sunny day. It’s going to be cold, the route is shortened, less and less people seem to care as each year passes bye, including yourself.

It’s a local holiday, people drink on holidays, people gather on holidays, why don’t you embrace your irish tradition and inebriate yourself early so by the time you come out of your drunken coma the celebrations will be over.

II wouldn’t call him stupid. You just completely changed the topic. NSNTTH said that YOUR premise that these kids were invading a neighborhood full of parents is misconceived since the neighborhood is predominately young and therefore no longer full of parents. You somehow then countered that a million people show up. That statistic has nothing to do with what you originally stated nor how NSNTTH replied. Even if 10 million people show up, they are showing up to a neighborhood of people mostly their own age. These may or may not be the facts but, in any event, your retort was a non-sequitur.

From what I read from you, you’re nothing more than a boring IMPORT. Go back to your LILLY white suburb where you came from. You profess to know all about SOUTHIE, in reality you’re nothing more than a sarcastic banana head.
