Southie is growing by leaps and bounds – especially the waterfront!  Well, we are about to get a new and very luxurious hotel complete with a giant ballroom, 1000 rooms (holy moly) and maybe even a skating rink!

The Boston Planning and Development Agency approved what will be one of the largest new hotels in Boston.  The Omni-brand inn will be located on Summer Street across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center and will have 1,054 rooms.  The giant two 20 story-tower complex will also feature a fitness center, many dining restaurants and retail.

Stay tuned!

This should be the tipping point to start wooing more legitimate conferences. Although, I am in favor of relinquishing the Seaport as a part of “Southie” or “South Boston”. They couldn’t be two more different neighborhoods visually & physically.

Good luck trying to drive down Summer St to get downtown or to go north of the city.
