Once the seed was planted, we knew it was only a matter of time before Widett Circle turned into hot real estate.  If the name of Widett Circle – aka – Midtown is ringing a bell, it is no doubt from the Boston 2024 Olympic bid.  For the last 100 years, Widett Circle – the area between Southie and the Southend – has been made up of two dozen meat and seafood wholesalers.  No one really gave it a second thought until the Olympic bid pointed out this valuable piece of property.

Well, the Boston Globe reported on Tuesday that The New Boston Food Market is up for sale which most likely will cause a bidding war among developers.  The vendors that make up The New Boston Food Market will then decide whether to sell or move to a new location.

What does that mean for our neighborhood? More construction and potentially a new neighborhood – maybe Midtown?

Still a lot of questions on this. Physically it’s a pretty isolated space (trapped between the rail yard & I-93), I don’t know who would want to live between two extremely loud transportation mediums. To the east it’s purely industrial and that corridor of Dot Ave will probably stay that way for a long, long time. At the very least the MBTA will be there for life, unless we outsource them (praying), havent personally seen the access to the West but either way this will be a very interesting development to follow. Can’t wait to hear what the NIMBY opposition has to say….oh wait no ones actual backyard will be involved…..is this a Boston first?

Outsource really. Hope your job is outsourced and you take all your friends back to the burbs and Conn or N Y or wherever your little tippy ass is from

That union is the only thing standing in the way of great service. The pension is well underwater, now is the time to cut the losses and have the T properly serve its riders. You know it, I know it, we all know it.

Outsourcing the MBTA? How ridiculous can an idea get? The MBTA is badly in need of massive improvements, and I wish the people who run the T would step up and fix the problems, but outsourcing the MBTA would be a bad idea, because it’s a much-needed venue.

Just as ridiculous as the union’s current stance. Apparently a few thousand workers’ pensions are more important than serving the hundreds of thousands that ride the T daily.

Music to my ears! Property values should be rewarded handsomely from this project! And the 10 others already in progress. What is it you call us….yuppies with puppies?.
