City Councilor At-Large and Southie resident Michael Flaherty announced this week he will not be running for Suffolk County District Attorney.  Read his statement below:

After long and careful consideration, I have decided that I will not be entering the race for Suffolk County District Attorney.

While I have long been interested in the DA’s position, and greatly enjoyed my time spent as a prosecutor, I will always put my home life ahead of career interests. We have been working through a family medical matter and, while the prognosis is good, my full attention is on what is most important to me, my family. Now is not the right time for me to take on the immense obligations of a countywide campaign.

I continue to love my position as an at-large city councilor, and look forward to continuing to serve the City of Boston in that capacity.

Being Suffolk County DA is an incredibly important and challenging job. While I will not be on the ballot, I am confident that from the current field of candidates and potential entries into the race, the voters in Boston and the rest of Suffolk County will choose wisely.
