SOUTH BOSTON – Boston City Councilor At-Large Michael Flaherty has officially endorsed his longtime friend and colleague Edward M. Flynn in the race for the District 2 city council seat, citing Flynn’s lifelong community ties, experience in addressing important neighborhood issues and commitment to improving the city for all.

“I grew up with Ed. I played youth sports with Ed. And what I know most about Ed is that he loves to help people,” Flaherty said. “His community involvement is unmatched. Whether it’s coaching youth sports, working with civic associations, attending public meetings, or assisting with community events, he’s always engaged and involved. He’s always there. He’s a guy who always puts community first.”

Flaherty said Flynn has been a constant ally in the district for the councilor and other elected officials, assisting them in identifying problems and finding solutions on a wide variety of issues, including substance abuse, traffic, economic development, equality, veterans services and schools.

“He loves to be a problem solver,” Flaherty said. “He takes the time to listen to residents and find a solution. He always tries to find that common ground.”

A lifelong resident of South Boston and 25-year veteran of the United States Navy, Flynn has built a strong coalition of supporters across the entire district, which includes the South End, Chinatown, Bay Village and South Boston.

“Michael Flaherty has been a great councilor for our city and South Boston,” Flynn said. “I’m humbled by his support and look forward to working closely with Michael on this campaign. I’d be honored to serve with him at City Hall as we seek to improve the district and the city for all by creating more affordable housing, improving public transportation, fostering smart economic development, addressing addiction, making our streets safer, taking care of our veterans and seniors and creating better schools.”
