BOSTON, Feb. 6, 2018 – Boston City Councilors Annissa Essaibi-George and Frank Baker have joined Rep. Nick Collins’ team as co-chairs of his campaign for the open senate seat for the 1st Suffolk District.

Essaibi-George, a native of Dorchester and a former Boston school teacher, is an at-large councilor and longtime friend and colleague who has worked with Rep. Collins on several key issues since her election in 2015.

“I’m proudly supporting Nick Collins for State Senate,” Essaibi-George said. “This election is especially important to me because Senator Dorcena Forry and I had such a strong working relationship, and because I am a resident of the First Suffolk District. Nick Collins has a proven record of success and collaboration that reaches across each and every community from Dorchester to Hyde Park and South Boston to Mattapan. I know that he will continue to be a leader on Beacon Hill on issues that matter to me and to my neighbors – investing in our public schools, keeping our streets safe, and providing all Bostonians with access to limitless opportunity.”

Baker, who also grew up in Dorchester, lives in Savin Hill and has been Dorchester’s district councilor since 2011. A former printer for the city of Boston, Baker’s district also includes sections of South Boston and the South End.

“I know Nick Collins will work tirelessly on our behalf to acquire the funding necessary to improve our ever changing neighborhoods,” Baker said. “I know this because he already does it. As a State Representative in part of my district for the past eight years, Nick has been laser focused on issues important to his constituents, and I know he will continue to work with such passion and collaboration as our next State Senator.”

“I have had the privilege to work alongside Nick on some very important issues impacting both our districts, in particular transportation, planning and development concerns relative to Kosciuszko circle, Morrissey Blvd., and UMass,” Baker added. “I can say without hesitation that there is no better advocate for our neighborhoods.”

Rep. Collins has also selected Amy Frigulietti as his campaign manager. Frigulietti is a graduate of University of Massachusetts-Amherst and was most recently Baker’s chief of staff. A resident of Lower Mills in Dorchester, she has also been chief of staff to state Sen. Michael Moore, was a legislative aide to state Sen. Guy Glodis and was an assistant deputy superintendent for the Worcester County House of Correction.

“I’m looking forward to working on the Nick Collins for Senate campaign in an effort to get him elected as our State Senator so that he can do even more for a greater number of individuals and neighborhoods,” Frigulietti said. “Representative Collins is not only easy to talk to, he listens and is eager to take action and help people. He understands our city and the people who make it great. That’s why I am honored to take on the role of his campaign manager. I know he will do an unbelievable job as our next State Senator.”

Since 2010, Rep. Collins has represented the Fourth Suffolk District, which includes South Boston and sections of Dorchester. Born and raised in South Boston, Rep. Collins worked closely with Sen. Dorcena-Forry on a number of key issues, including transportation, public safety, housing, economic development, job creation, gender pay equality and the environment.

“I look forward to continuing the important work that Sen. Dorcena-Forry and I started together and having strong, effective neighborhood advocates like Councilors Essaibi-George and Baker, as well as experienced talent like Amy Frigulietti, on my team is crucial,” Rep. Collins said. “We are excited to collaborate with the many diverse neighborhoods of our district and hear from residents as we prioritize the work that needs to be done to improve the quality of life for all.”

Collin will be running against State Rep. and Dorchester resident Evandro Carvalho who  announced his candidacy on Tuesday.  The seat vacated by Linda Dorcena Forry in late January. Three other candidates have also pulled papers but have not formerly announced – State Rep. Althea Garrison (no party), Kenny Jervis (D), and Donald Osgood, Sr. (I).

The primary is April 3rd.
