If you like to walk on the wild side, then this news should get your adrenaline flowing. The ride-sharing service Lyft has announced it will be launching a new program in the Seaport District where some lucky passengers can take an autonomous car developed by nuTonomy Inc.

The program hopes to launch by the end of the month.   Really, what could go wrong?

I love the idea of trying to brand Boston, and in particular Seaport, as tech friendly. I’d be thrilled to see these vehicles on the road. Could they really be much worse than your typical Boston driver…?

But how will we rate the driver?

I have used the Lyft on a number of occasions (I have an account with them.), and they are excellent. If I’ve taken public transportation somewhere downtown early in the evening, and don’t want to take public transportation home late at night, I’ve used them, plus I’ve used them to get to appointments and TKD classes or wherever, in not such good weather, or when the MBTA isn’t running so great.

The Lyft is far cheaper and more reliable than regular taxi cabs often are, plus they screen their drivers way better, as well. Highly recommended, in my book.
