Early Wednesday morning (so early it was really night time), under the cover of darkness, a 1065-foot shipping vessel drifted out to sea.  The Helsinki Bridge somehow broke its line at the Conley Terminal in Southie.

According to the Boston Globe, hours later, the ship was found near Winthrop and crews from the Coast Guard, Massport, and Boston and State Police marine units found the ship, and used commercial tug vessels to guided her to the sound between Winthrop and Nahant.

Phew!

Bad look for the port workers union.

You obviously don’t know much about the industry. The secure docking of the ship and required 24 hour watch is the responsibility of the captain and his crew by law, not of the workers handling the offloading of cargo.

It has nothing to do with the longshoremen. The ship’s gangway watch and deck officer is responsible for tending the mooring lines, the ship’s chief mate is responsible for maintaining a proper draft and ballast.

Wow!! That doesn’t sound so good! Glad the ship was found and guided to where it was supposed to be, and re-moored!
