Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn is seeking to assemble a working group to examine the issues related to stray voltage in the City of Boston that recently led to the tragic death of a dog on Southampton Street. Flynn has since met with an official from the City of Boston Department of Public Works and has also contacted utility companies Eversource Energy & National Grid.

Flynn said,” I read reports last week regarding stray voltage under the ground on Southampton street that led to the tragic loss of Ms. Begley’s dog, Bob. I am so sorry to hear about her loss and my heart goes out to her during this difficult time. It is now my immediate goal to establish a working group, comprised of City of Boston officials and the utility companies, to examine this issue thoroughly and prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future.”

“In the meantime, I have met with the Public Works Department and been informed that saturated ground, corroding salt, and older electrical cabinets and infrastructure present conditions where this can occur,” said Flynn. “I would encourage residents, if able, to sweep off any salt from their sidewalks as a precaution.”

If residents become aware of similar incidents like this, please contact both 311 and Councilor Flynn’s office at 617-635-3203 or [email protected].

Not a new issue. We live in 48 hour news cycle society and things like this get pushed aside pretty quickly

Poor little pooch. Why couldn’t it have been a SMILF?

Bob didn’t deserve this. Since we are deemed a sanctuary city & state, that means we won’t get as much as we proportionately need (and deserve) from the proposed infrastructure plan. Got to love when the state & city take the side of non-citizens over citizens.

    What a world.

and don’t get me started on the unions, or should I say the stranglers of the economy. Can’t wait for the landmark ruling coming on Feb. 26th.

Ouch! Sorry that this happened to Ms. Begley! The loss of a beloved pet is tough, and rather painful. My thoughts are with Ms. Begley during these difficult times.
