On Wednesday, City Councilor Bill Linehan held the president’s gavel for one last time. According to the Boston Globe, Linehan made an emotional goodbye and ended his 30 year service to the City of Boston and retiring two months early.

After his formal goodbye, outside Council Chambers, Linehan officially endorsed Ed Flynn who is currently running for the District 2 City Council seat that Linehan held.

“Ed has served his country, he served the Commonwealth, he served his community, and now this is a time for him to serve his city,” he said. “He understands the importance of city services and the delivery of those services, and he’s always looking out for the less fortunate.”

Flynn is running against Mike Kelley in the general election on November 7th.

According to the Boston Herald, Linehan hopes to establish himself as a consultant.
