Written by Mairead McGonagle

Leslie Knope from Parks & Rec said it best, “What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”

No significant other? No problem.  Complicated relationship status? Don’t sweat it. Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be a day of mourning and pints of Ben & Jerry’s.  This year, V-Day falls on a weekend (hello Sunday Funday) and we put together 5 ways you can host the ultimate GDO/ Girls Day Out, fabulous frittatas welcomed.

Set the Table

Display your style in full bloom with a couple of bouquets of fresh flowers.  Inspire a twist on traditional pink & red with a centerpiece filled with light blues, blushes, and purples. Galentine’s Day has no rules ☺ or show off your DIY-skills with handmade props like these adorable paper 3D hearts or reminisce #tbt style with a polaroid heart gallery.

Cheers to a Signature Cocktail

Two words: Mimosa Bar. Set up juices, fruit, and champagne separately on your bar cart or a small table, complete with trendy paper straws. Neatly Nested offers oh-so-cute champagne flutes, drinkware, and “Beer Snob” glasses for those non-champagne-drinking attendees.  Don’t forget to serve up some Irish Coffee to add some Southie charm to your soirée.

Prep the Menu

It’s all about the food. Consider doing a potluck-style affair to take the stress out of cooking all of the things. Ask the squad to bring their favorite breakfast recipe or dish and try a little bit of everything. Also, it’s a known fact calories don’t count on Galentine’s Day, so feel free to indulge in favorites like Avocado Hash Brown Eggs & Strawberry Cream Cheese French Toast. Add some sass to the table with these #HotMess cocktail napkins from one of our go-to spots, Wears + Wares.

Add the Tunes

You’re going to want a playlist filled of your fave female artists & happiest songs #nojudgement.  Some of our favorite Spotify Playlists? Valentine’s Day Mixtape, Single + Loving it, Girls’ Night, and Bachelorette Party Radio. Or, build your own playlist filled with the classics from every decade. Score a Bluetooth speaker for fuss-free (and easy-to-move) jam-playing all day long.

Set the Lighting Scheme

We’ve already fallen in love with Paddywax mason jar candles, now in stock at Neatly Nested and the Crystal Candles by Jax Kelly at Ku De Ta. Place one or two on the table or Mimosa Bar for a trendy touch or create-your-own luminary with this DIY design.
