UPDATE: Tom Tinlin announced on Wednesday he will not be returning to his position as Mass DOT’s Highway Division Administrator. Back in the spring, Tom went on leave after surgery for a brain aneurysm.  He was expected to return to work this week but has decided to resign to spend more time with his family.  According to an article in the Boston Globe, the decision was not an impulsive one and the his family are the most important part of his life.  We wish Tom all the best!  He’s an amazing guy with an amazing family!

original post below:

Tom Tinlin is overwhelmed.  “The outpouring of love, prayers and support for me and my family has been humbling.”  The life long Southie guy and Mass DOT’s Highway Division Administrator had the scare of his life earlier this week.  He had been suffering from headaches for a week but the situation grew from concerning to scary this past Sunday. “I was doing the live auction at the Fourth Fest and while I was up on stage it felt as though someone came up from behind me and cracked me over the head with a baseball bat,” said Tinlin.  Having a strong work ethic, he quickly finished up the final two auction items and had his wife Heather drive him to the emergency room at Beth Israel.

Tinlin suffered an aneurysm in his brain and had to have emergency surgery to repair the damage.  His surgery was successful and he is on the mend for the next two weeks. “From the security guard who met me at the front door, to the doctors and nurses, the level of care could not be more stellar. The doctors were really honest with me when they explained that things could have been much, much different for me.”  Tinlin went on to say, “The real hero here is Heather, I never knew she could drive like that. It looked like a scene from Starsky and Hutch! The big lesson learned, is manage your care. If you don’t get headaches and get some insist your doctor do the appropriate tests and don’t be talked out of it. We know our bodies better then anyone.  My phone has been blowing up. It’s good to know people don’t hold a grudge on all those parking tickets! Seriously,  I just want to thank the entire South Boston and broader community.  I have not felt alone on any part of this journey.”

Continue to send your love and prayers to Tinlin and his family!  He is genuinely one of the nicest, funniest and kindest guys we know!

AMEN and so GLAD you are well – and sage advice – be your own advocate – we all know our own bodies and should be alert to anything that persists too long or is a totally new, out of nowhere symptom. Heal quickly (but get your rest!)

Tommy so glad that you had the presence of mind to know it was a serious problem, my son lost his best friend his senior year in high school to an aneurysm. They do not discriminate by age. You were truly blessed. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a long healthy life from here on out.

    H, Tom.

Without knowing you and your family personally, and not being from South Boston, I’m sorry to hear that you were stricken with such a horrible illness. It’s good that you got such good care at such a good hospital. Here’s hoping that you have a speedy recovery and that you’re back on your feet soon. All the best of luck to you and yours.
