Everyone wants to live in Southie!  Even wildlife.  We’ve got coyotes, deer, skunks, mola mola sunfish, whalesbald eagles, turkeys and now we have the cutest bunnies!  Bunny sightings in Southie are becoming more and more frequent.  Some spotted in the Seaport District, some at M Street park.  They are loving this neighborhood!

Back in the day, you never saw bunnies in Southie and now bunnies everywhere! Why?  Well, for one, it’s rabbit mating season – March through September – so that could be one reason we are seeing more.  But why are they hopping all over the city?  Well, just like squirrels, rabbits are getting used to living in the city.  (We hear they love the nightlife and the close proximity to the beach.)  According to an article in the Boston Globe last month, the New England cottontail and Eastern cottontail — can live in a habitat as small as a half acre.  Just a little green space and some vegetation.

Have you seen the #SouthieBunny? Send us your pictures!

Awwww…what a cute little bunny! I spotted a very similar-looking bunny not long ago here in Somerville. Eileen Murphy was lucky she was able to get a picture of that bunny, because those jack-rabbits move awfully fast! What a cool picture.
