It’s Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11th!   Originally known as Armistice Day to honor the living veterans of World War 1, Veterans Day has transformed into a holiday that celebrates all those who served their country.  Make sure to thank a veteran!

The VFW Post 561 – Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post (715 East Fourth Street) – will celebrate Veteran’s Day on Saturday at 9 a.m with a parade march to St. Brigid’s Church, and a memorial Mass followed by a brunch at Cushing Hall (lower church).

The DAV 5K Run to Honor Veterans is a run, walk, roll and motorcycle ride that thanks those who served and raises awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face every day. The race takes place at Castle Island on Saturday, November 11th at 9am. $30 To register visit here!

Dorchester Brewing is throwing a Veterans Day celebration!  Support American Legion’s Scholarship Fund and the LEO Support Foundation at this fun-filled event on Saturday from 12pm-9pm.  Live bands, food truck, raffle prizes, trivia and 50/50 raffle!Live Music Schedule: The Fancy Bassets: 4pm-6pmand The Smoking Jackets: 6:30pm-9pm.  Food Truck: The Bacon Truck: 12pm-5:30pm and Aahhh-Roma: 6pm-9pm!  Stop by!

On Monday, November 13th show your support for our local veterans at the South Boston Allied War Veterans Council Social at 6pm at Capo!  Stop by for some food, drinks and fun!  Special AWVC t-shirts will be on sale as a fundraiser for the 2018 St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

Veterans Day Deals:
Local 149 is honoring veterans with a free burger!  Both active and retired vets are welcome to stop into Local 149 on Veterans Day for a free burger with purchase of a drink.  Military ID required.  Gratuity not included.

Simple Barre is offering free classes to veterans on Friday and Saturday! Email the studio to sign up! 

Boston Tea Party Museum & Ships – Free admission for all Veterans, active duty military personnel, and police officers on November 11 – must show current ID for active duty or DD214 (proof of release from the military) at the door.  More information about admission – 1-855-832-1773

Franklin Park Zoo – Free admission to Veterans on November 10 and 11, 2017, 10am – 3:30pm (closes at 4pm)

Boston Children’s Museum – Free admission to Veterans on both November 10th and 11th!

Applebee’s is honoring America’s veterans and active-duty military by offering them a free meal on Veterans Day from a special menu.  Military ID requires

What’s opened/closed:

• Municipal Offices: Closed (including City Hall, public schools, and community centers) on FRIDAY.  Saturday – Libraries will be closed.  Some banks may be closed on Friday and other’s on Saturday – check their websites.

• Parking Meters: FREE, time limit NOT in effect. All other parking rules remain in effect.

• MBTA: Running on a Holiday schedule on SATURDAY – Veterans Day.

• Liquor stores: Open
