Some Helpful Tips on “green” wrapping paper!   In this movement of being friendly to our planet, our good friends at Planet Southie would like to offer you some reasons to go green with your gift wrapping. Consider it your Christmas present to the earth:

  • One of the biggest sources of waste each holiday season is wrapping paper; with more than 8,000 tons being used each year – the equivalent of approximately 50,000 trees.
  • Paper production is one of the most polluting industries. Also, the inks and foils used in printed wrapping paper may contain chemicals that become toxic when burned. If you can’t reuse the paper, don’t burn it: recycle it.

Some fun green gift wrapping ideas:

  • Wrap gifts in colorful cloth napkins and kitchen towels. Not only will this save wrapping paper, it will also save paper towels and paper napkins through out the year!?
  • Reusable cloth shopping bags come in beautiful patters these days and make lovely gift wrappings. If you are feeling ambitious, sew your own!?
  •  Scarves are a warm way to wrap and show you care.?
  •  Out with the old! Wrapping with pages from last year’s wall calendars and magazines is a neat a way to get some extra mileage out those nice photos and artwork (and clean house for the New Year). You can even choose the images based on the gift recipient’s personality, interests and sense of humor  — this adds a personal touch that a roll of paper just can’t.?
  •  If you wrap family presents in gift bags, consider designs (or simply bright colors) that can be reused for birthdays, showers and other gifts though out the year.?
  •  Instead of disposable bows, a colorful ornament, sparkly jewelry or other re-usable decorations can brighten up a gift.

Merry Christmas!
