Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post VFW #561 to host memorial exercise on Sunday (May 29th) at 9:15am

On Sunday, May 29,members of the Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post #561 (Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States), respectfully invite the residents of South Boston to join us for our annual Memorial Day Services.  VFW members and friends of the post will assemble at the post and march at 9:15am to Medal of Honor Park (M Street) for the laying of the wreath at the South Boston Vietnam Memorial.  We are also proud to march with members of the South Boston High School Junior ROTC program and with bagpiper Kevin Conroy and drummer Michael Casper.

“Across our great nation, people will pause on Memorial Day for silent remembrance:  to mourn, remember, honor and to pray for those who gave their life in defense of our country,” said Edward Flynn, commander of the Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post #561 VFW.    “We also are determined and resolved that their sacrifice will always be remembered by a grateful neighborhood and nation.”

On Sunday, the public is invited to gather at the corner of L Street and East 4th Street (at 9:15am) and view the marchers on their route to the South Boston Vietnam Memorial.  The public can also attend the ceremony and the laying of the wreath at the South Boston Vietnam Memorial as well.  The route of the march will start at The Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post (715 East 4th Street), continue on East 4th Street – and left on N Street, to the Medal of Honor Park.
