Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant’s back bar was jam packed with people who showed up last week to support Julie’s Family Learning Program. The annual “Friendraiser” aims to attract more people to get to know the great work and services offered for female heads of households facing crises.
“It was really wonderful to see so many new faces and younger residents who want to contribute to an organization in their neighborhood. It was really inspiring,” said Bob Monahan, Julie’s Executive Director.
Local businesses and residents donated items for the night’s raffle as well as in-kind services to support the friendraiser. Southie resident and Boston Police Officer Stephen McKunes won the evening’s covetedraffle prize, the new i Watch, while his mother Mary went home with the “Drink Night” prize.
“We want to thank Lincoln Tavern and Restaurant for hosting us once again, along with our Friendraiser committee and board members who reached out to their friends and colleagues to make this, our 3rd annual Friendraiser, the most successful yet,” said Monahan. “Initially launched in 2013, to reach those new in the community via social media, we can report that over the course of three years we have added 700 new friends of Julie’s. We are thrilled with this result as we work hard to keep Julie’s viable and accessible to mothers who are determined to be the best parent they can be,” he added.

Nearly $10,000 was raised during the 2-hour event and most importantly Julie’s gained a wonderful new influx of people who want to support their life-changing work.
