Southie Shout-out: Falmouth Road Race – Running for a Cause!

Some local Southie residents are lacing up their sneakers and running the Falmouth Road Race this weekend for causes that are near and dear to their heart.  Chelsea Farrell is running along side with her dad and sister in honor of her uncle Mike who lost his battle with brain cancer just this past July.  She will be running for Dana-Farber in hopes to raise awareness and to raise funds for cancer research. 

Sarah Lewis will be running with team Dana Farber as well in memory of her grandmother Betty Cole.  Sarah will be running with her husband Mark.

All of the money raised by the more than 225 runners on the Dana-Farber team in this year’s Falmouth Road Race goes directly to the Jimmy Fund, supporting adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. www.rundanafarber.org

With two Falmouth Road Races under his belt, Harry Davis is running this year with the New England Organ Bank team.  Harry is running in honor of his brother Preston who died in 2004 and became an organ donor.  Harry will run with his sister Grace and friend Ryan who are all raising funds and awareness for organ and tissue donation in memory of Preston. Alicia Spector will be running her sixth Falmouth Road Race in honor of her uncle Doug who passed from ALS last year. “I run and raise money for Compassion Care ALS Foundation which helps to support patients and caregivers of those diagnosed with ALS,” says Alicia.  If you would like to learn more about this organization you can visit: http://www.ccals.org/home.php

Tricia Woodward is running for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Team Cookie for Brook “the Cookie” Taptick – a courageous little girl.  Tricia had a fundraiser at the South Boston Bowl on East Broadway last month that contributed to the nearly $50,000 that Team Cookie has helped raise!  “To find more about why I’m running and the awesome local businesses that helped me with my fundraiser in July, you can visit http://www.cff.org/LWC/dsp_donationPage.cfm?idEvent=27053&idUser=346353. 

Lena Vorias is running her third Falmouth Road Race, representing the Leukemia and Lymphoma’s Team in Training. This is her second year running with TNT in honor of her family’s very dear friend Rick Mindess fighting Leukemia. “It’s great to train and be part of a team that can support and encourage each other, while running for those who can’t.”
