will be honored

Local volunteer hero, Joe Curran will be honored at a special night by the Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) on Tuesday, September 17th from 6pm-9pm at the Revere Hotel.  Joe is one of 18 outstanding volunteers who provide extraordinary assistance that helps put Boston-area residents on pathways to better lives.

Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis will deliver the Keynote Address and WCVB’s Channel 5 anchor, Susan Wornick will be the evening’s emcee.  The annual event celebrates the voluntary efforts of individuals who work tirelessly to address and placate the plight of Boston’s underprivileged residents and communities through voluntary leadership and service.

Joe Curran, is currently a youth services officer with the Boston Police Department and has spent his life in the service of young people. He has also provided significant volunteer services in the community where he was born and raised—Southie.  A talented basketball player, Joe became a volunteer basketball coach in the D Street projects in the 1980s and then athletic director at Condon Community Center. He was Recreation Program Manager at Boston’s Center for Youth and Families and coach of St. Vincent’s CYO basketball team. He volunteers with the South Boston Youth Ambassadors, which provides extra-curricular activities for neighborhood teens. South Boston Action Center Director Patricia Wright says, “Joe’s commitment to our young people is exemplary and life-changing. We thank him!”

Thank you, Joe, for all you do!  It’s people like you that make South Boston the amazing community it is! ?
