Honor a local hero! On Thursday, November 8th The Paraclete Academy will honor Sister Ann for her 40 years of service and dedication to South Boston's children. Sister Ann Fox is a lifelong activist and advocate for at-risk youth of South Boston. Nearly 15 years ago, she co-founded the Paraclete Foundation in South Boston to provide educational enrichment opportunities to South Boston youth.
The scoop on Sister Ann:
Prior to founding the Paraclete Foundation, Sister Ann was the Director of the South Boston Neighborhood House. In the early 1970s, Sister Ann created one of the earliest education training programs for welfare mothers in the Bromley Heath housing development. Early in her career she worked as a social worker in New York City and in Baltimore. Sister Ann is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Fordham University School of Social Work. She was consecrated in 1974 by Humberto Cardinal Medeiros for the Archdiocese of Boston. She is a founding member of the Women Waging Peace initiative. The Institute for Inclusive Security has included her in its Directory of Women Peace Experts.
After a lifetime of love and dedication and devotion to children, Sister Ann will be stepping down from her day to day responsibilities related to the South Boston After School Academy. Help honor this local hero and her work in our community at a special reception at Boston College High School (150 Morrissey Boulevard). On a side note, Sister Ann will be honored at the Celtics game of Wednesday, November 7th for being one of "The Heroes Among Us." The Heroes Among Us Award is presented to an individual or individuals who, through their unique commitment and humanitarian spirit, have made exceptional and lasting contributions to our community. At each home game, the Celtics and their fans have saluted the exemplary efforts of these citizens during a special in-game presentation on the legendary parquet floor.
