A fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association

A very special event has been planned in memory of Ann Reitman – Ann lived her entire life in South Boston, raising her three children in a home at the corner of M and 5th where she lived until she moved to Compass on the Bay (Bayview) on Columbia Road for full time care as her Alzheimer’s Disease progressed. She was married to a Boston police sergeant and veteran, Leon Reitman, who also lost his life after battling a form of dementia called Lewy Body’s disease. Their three daughters, Susan Gavaghan, Nancy Menjin, and Lisa Burns, were all born and raised in Southie and maintain strong ties to this very day.

Ann was a very dedicated parishoner of St Brigid’s Parish, where she watched all three daughters (and one granddaughter!) get married. She was very involved with the Castle Island Association and the South Boston Irish American Society, which her daughters and grandchildren are now part of! She never missed a “time” and loved spending her days at Castle Island or “the Lagoon” with her family and friends. She loved Sullivan’s onion rings, breakfast at Terry’s Place on East Broadway, and taking the number 9 bus to Macy’s downtown. South Boston was her favorite place in the world, and she was so proud to call it her home until the day she lost her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Join friends, family and neighbors for  night of entertainment, raffles, and dancing to raise awareness and funds in support of the Alzheimer’s Association on Saturday, May 16th at 7pm at The Constitution Ballroom at the Adams Inn – 29 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA.

Facts:
Currently, more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and by 2050, without a cure, this number may reach 16 million. With one in eight Americans over 65 living with Alzheimer’s, it is likely that you already know someone impacted by the disease.
