Next week Uncle Ben is coming to Boston! The popular rice corporation Uncle Ben’s U.S.A has a five-city tour in which kids are encouraged to take on the role of chef, and Boston happens to be stop number two on the list. Sportello in Fort Point will be hosting. The idea behind Ben’s Beginner Contest is to instruct kids on healthier ways or preparing foods, particularly Uncle Ben’s classic rice in this case.

Empowering parents to connect with their kids one meal at a time, Ben’s Beginner Contest will feature healthy recipes, teach useful basic cooking skills, and be instructed by a very qualified team of chefs. Chef Barbara Lynch, as well as Janice Bissix and Liz Weiss, will lead families through a healthy rice dish tutorial. The event is limited to only 40 participants (meaning children, not including families who may also be involved); so interested groups are instructed to act fast.

Kids participating are encouraged to enter the Ben’s Beginner online contest as well. Winners of the contest will earn either $15,000 or $30,000 towards a cafeteria makeover for their school. As an added bonus, families participating in the Boston event will be given some assorted goodies. And, let’s not forget the fact that those partaking get to eat some delicious, nutritious meals with the crew over at Uncle Ben’s!

Children who hope to attend must be in grades K-8, and those who might have allergies are urged to contact [email protected] with any possible concerns. The event runs from 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM on Monday, September 15th, and Sportello is located at 348 Congress Street, S Boston, MA, 02210. If you wish to RSVP, it is free! However the first 20 families are given priority, so hurry and reserve your spot at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/boston-bens-beginnerstm-cooking-contest-kickoff-tickets-12709774277. Get cookin’!
