Adopt-a-Hydrant

Help a brother out

With snow covering the ground in Southie, the city is looking for good citizens to step up and shovel the hydrants in your neighborhood.  Mayor Menino announced the Adopt-a-Hydrant program to help with keeping the 13,000 hydrants across the city clear and free of snow.

Currently the responsibility lies with the Boston Fire Department but it's nice to be nice and to help out Boston's bravest.  When volunteers pitch in, it helps uncover the hydrants more quickly and ultimately making out neighborhood safer.

How does it work?

  • First go to the Adopt-a-Hydrant website http://boston.adoptahydrant.org/
  • Sign-up for a hydrant on your block (you can even name your hydrant)
  • You will be matched up with hydrant that you will shovel out when it snows

Simple, right?  So volunteer and help keep Southie a little safer.
