Pizza Pie-er

Rumor has it that the Kiley’s Tavern at 138 Old Colony Ave is under construction and in the process of being transformed into a pizza place.  Pizza Pie-er has a September goal to open it’s doors.  This small chain has spots in Providence RI and Cambridge and boasts “extraordinary pizza” with multiple options for crust type like white, wheat, multigrain and veggie and specialty pizzas including pesto pizza and cajun chicken.

We are not sure if they have a beer and wine license and we have our fingers crossed that that maybe it will be old-school Southie -I.A.-esque but our fear is that maybe Pizza Pie-er is just a glorified Dominos.

You can be the judge come September.

Special thanks to Jon Zibell for the scoop!

old-school Southie -I.A.-esque?? Why would we want that? A place with a bunch of people doing shots at the bar and the restaurant area the last place in Mass that people could smoke?  How about a place were we can get fresh pizza with interesting ingredients?

The last thing Southie needs is another pizza place. There are almost 20 pizza joints in Southie already. I give it 1 year if that…

South Boston currently has almost 20 pizza joints. It’s unfortunate they didn’t do something better with Kiley’s.

we would want a return to the IA because it was a family friendly place that you could sit for a while eat pizza, catch up with old friends and god forbid yes….. drink beer.  Yes the IA had a full bar as well as the restaurant.  I went there countless times as a kid with hockey teams, baseball teams etc.  I don’t seem to remember it as a place where everyone was doing shots and smoking, but hey your probably right.

I for one am excited to welcome a pizza restaurant that makes a delicious pizza with fresh ingredients and tons of options for customization. It will be a delightful change from the baked cardboard topped with flavorless sauce straight out of a jar and rubber cheese product I’ve had at every other pizza joint in Southie.

No fears of Pizza Pie-er being another Dominos! They offer a variety of crusts, including whole grain, and a make your own style that you can make as healthy or decadent as you like. A great new addition to more of “the usual” pizza places in Southie!

The pizza really is delicious and you never get the evil eye when you bring kids or any sport teams in there.  The buffalo cheicken pizza is a family favorite of ours.  Still a great neighborhood gem and economically sounf for families.
