Other than warmer temperatures we have a lot to look forward to in the neighborhood this spring!  According to the Boston Globe, Backyard Betty’s will be opening this month!  This new 137 seat restaurant with bar is located at the newly constructed development at 172-174 West Broadway.  The team that brought us Publico – Dave Mateo, Dave Winick and Theo Bougas are behind this new restaurant that will feature “American classics and backyard cookout cuisine” like Nashville hot fried chicken, hushpuppies, steak tips and soft serve ice cream.  Yum!

Castle Island Brewing (located in Norwood) will be opening a pop up beer garden at Underground at Ink Block beginning in May!  The beer garden will take over 5,000 square feet of the urban park under 93 that opened last summer and have 20 taps serving up 8 styles of beer per day!

Castle Island at Underground will be open Thursday and Friday 3-10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.  Opening day will be May 11th.

Beer garden will be awesome! The restaurant on the other hand sounds like another boring menu with the same basic unhealthy comfort food options as every other place in the area. Don’t get me wrong I love fried chicken and Publico, but can we get some fresher and more interesting flavors into Southie??

So does it have 137 seats, or 150 seats?

I think with the bar seats it’s a total of 150. I updated to avoid confusion. Thanks!

Drinking beer under the expressway. I had that same idea when I was 15. Missed opportunity.
