Eat:
Hot Diggity Dog!It’s the unofficial food of summer so celebrate it!  Whether you like it with mustard or ketchup, today is your perfect excuse to eat one!  It’s National Hotdog Day and we are sharing our picks for the best hot dogs in Southie! Sully’s at Castle Island – legendary for over 60 years.  People wait in lines for one of these “snap dogs” and for just $1.90 you might as well get two. Tasty Burger (69 L Street)  – one of Southie’s newest eateries, Tasty Burger not only offers delicious burgers and fries, but they also offer all beef “shanks”.  Get a 1/4 lb. dog on a toasted bun for $3.95 or live a little with chili and cheese for $5.25. Rondo’s (134 West Broadway) – We know they are known for they subs – they are rumored to cure a hangover – but Rondo’s also has foot long hot dog that is grilled to perfection for $2.75.

Drink:
Raise your glass to Friday Night Flights! Every Friday evening, GrandTen will open the distillery doors to those interested in a more in-depth understanding of handcrafted spirits. Offering a detailed tour, followed by a relaxed tasting of our full line of products (along with special, limited-run spirits not available anywhere else), you’ll keep a tasting glass as a souvenir. These tastings will include discussions on mixology, the history of Boston spirits, and the spirit world more generally. Fish:
A new summer youth fishing program casts off this Saturday morning from 9:30am-11am at the Curley Recreation Center beach.  All boys and girls ages 8 and up are invited to fish!  Fishing rods, and bait will be provided.  We also hear they’ll have some crab traps too!  For more information call Barbara Kelly at 617-635-5104

Paddle:
Hit the water this weekend!  Take to the seas on a kayak or paddleboard.  It’s a fun activity as well as a great workout!  Boating in Boston has a rental spot right at Carson Beach near the Seaside Cafe where you can rent by the hour beginning at $15.  They also offer a sunset tour for $45 which includes 90 minute guided paddle around the Boston Skyline, kayak rental, lifejacket and paddle. The Eagle – “America’s Tall Ship” is in town until the 27th.  The Coast Guard’s Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes and the only square-rigger in U.S. government service. The ship was built in 1936 in Germany, and commissioned as Horst Wessel, one of three sail training ships operated by the pre-World War II German navy.   You can see The Eagle at Pier 4 in Charlestown.  Free public tours will be open on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  It’s okay to leave Southie for an hour! 

 

Free Ice Cream:
In celebration of summer in the city and National Ice Cream Month, Friendly’s livens up the lunch hour with a free ice cream pop-up at The Lawn on D. As part of The Lawn on D’s Lunch Break on D series, Friendly’s invites ice cream fans to indulge in an afternoon of free frozen treats, lawn games and live music. Beginning at 12pm on Friday, July 24th, Friendly’s ambassadors will be handing out a variety of Sundae Snack Cups, including their Original Fudge Sundae Cup and Ice Cream Cake Sundae Cup. As visitors to The Lawn on D relax on swings, play a competitive yet friendly game of corn hole and take in the sounds of Berklee College of Music’s 3 Sudacas, they can enjoy a sweet treat for FREE! We can’t think of a better way to spend a summer Friday?!
