Local Dorchester girl Sue Costello (and MSJA Class of ’86 – go Mounties!) is in town to perform at Laugh Boston as part of the Women in Comedy Festival. Making appearances in “The Fighter” with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, “Southie” – the local cult classic starring Donnie Wahlburg (put it on your Netflix list), Last Comic Standing and Fox’s Costello, this funny lady’s show is Saturday, April 25th at 8pm.

We sat down and had a little Q&A with Sue:
You grew up in Savin Hill – did that influence your comedy? Absolutely! I grew up with some hilarious people. It made me want to be witty like people from Boston.
Favorite memory about growing up in Dot?
Hanging up The Ryan Playground. Oh and walking by the boys on my way to the Ryan playground. They always checked me out.
When did you know you wanted to be a comedian?
I think deep down always. I was afraid to admit it. I couldn’t even go to a comedy club until Kevin Chapman signed me up for a comedy competition and I was hooked! See! A Boston guy started it all for me.
Since, you’re home for the weekend, do you have places that you like to go to since you’re back in town? McKenna’s is a must and steak tips at Shenanigans.
What is your go to order at Sully’s? Fried shrimp or a cheeseburger, french fries and a shake.
Since you’re in town as part of the Women in Comedy Festival, which female comedians have influenced you?
Wanda Sykes slays me.
What’s new on the horizon for you?
I‘m a regular on Artie Lange’s podcast. Artiequitter.com. I’m back in June to headline 4 shows at Laugh Boston. This summer I’m performing my play “I Wasn’t Trying To Be Funny” on Nantucket and in East Hampton. I’m headlining Vegas in the fall. I’m in talks for a network talk show.
