Thank you for making
Rock the Vote
a Big Success!
Saturday, June 26th the Boston Athletic Club was a buzz with activity as the parking lot was transformed into a concrete beach party. Gloria’s Kitchen made sure there were plenty of cold beers and burgers and hot dogs to go around. Kennedy from Mix 104.1 kicked off the day by welcoming the crowd and introducing The Scooby Snax Band who played for the afternoon. The band was a real crowd pleaser - playing music from the 70’s, 80, 90’s and current. The Scooby Snax Band energetic performance really made the day.
All the candidates for State Representative were there with signs, and buttons galore. Congressman Lynch was also there giving away the best t-shirts ever. Gerry Cuddyer the Elections Commissioner was on hand to help with voter registration. In fact, Gerry helped Kennedy change her address on her voter registration to reflex her new Southie residence. Mt. Washington Bank was they were giving away surprises and showing off there new customized van. The Mix 104.1 Ice Cream truck made sure the crowd had plenty of free ice cream and the Young Republican’s had two tables of young and enthusiastic workers. The open market was hopping with shoppers checking out the wares from Tangerine Boutique, Habit, Mary Kay Cosmetics, College Hype and the Townie Collections. And the Amrheins Party Trolley made the loop from East and West Broadway to BAC with the disco ball spinning and the music playing shuttling guests back and forth.
Rock the Vote also had a few cameo appearances by gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker, Guy Glodis running for State Auditor, Mac D'Alessandro, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress from the 9th district, and our own City Councilor Bill Linehan.
The highlight of the afternoon was when Congressman Lynch got up and spoke and reflected on his career as a State Representative. He also introduced each of the candidates giving the crowd a brief bio on each one of them. The candidates spoke on why each of them was running and the importance of being involved in our community of South Boston. Jake Bombard, Patrick Brennan, Nick Collins, Mike McGee and Mark McGonagle are all young (McGonagle being the oldest at 30 years old), hard-working, ambitious, intelligent men who are committed to representing a town they are all very passionate about. We should be proud of these candidates and honored they want to represent us. Caught in Southie wants you to be involved in this election. Get informed, volunteer, and show support. It is your right and civic duty to vote.
A special thank you to all of our sponsors! And thank you to you the Caught in Southie readers for all your support!
